Loft Jeans | Goodwill Houston $7.99
Jeans are an iconic anchor to any wardrobe!
To be honest, I splurge on my jeans just because I have a curvy shape and I often do not get lucky in the thrift store. However, recently I gained some weight and most of my jeans no longer fit. The “thrifty gal” in me will not be wasteful and get rid of all the jeans I spent my hard earned money on. The plan is to lose all the unwanted weight and fit into my old jeans again. With that being said, I opted to thrift some jeans that compliment my current body size and save some money.
I have thrifted jeans in the past, and loved them. However, I do not thrift them often so I pulled out all my thrift tips and tricks to make sure I found something I loved. Below I am sharing some helpful tips to help you find the perfect pair of thrifted jeans.
How to Thrift Jeans
- Find Inspiration:
Prior to heading to the thrift store have an idea of what it is you’re looking for. Currently, high-rise everything is a trend so that should definitely on your list of desired pieces. Mom jeans are also on trend right now. Last but not least, don’t forget to check Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration.
- Quality is a Priority:
Yes, thrifting jeans saves you money. However, you want to ensure that your money is well spent no matter where you spend it. Look for high quality jeans that will stand the test of time. One way I spot quality is by looking for jeans with heavier fabric. Heavier fabric is often a sign of durability. If it feels like luxury there is a chance that you’ve found a great pair of quality thrifted jeans. I also recommend checking tags for brands that you love and enjoy.
- Make Sure They Fit:
Before you buy your jeans make sure they fit. If you are thrifting online know your measurements. If the jeans fit your hips and thighs they have potential. If the fitting room is not available perform a fit check…..
FIT CHECK:
1.Wrap waistline of jeans around your neck.
Place the waistline of the jeans around your neck. If the waistline meets at the back of your neck, then the jeans will fit.
2.Measure waistline of jeans from shoulder to shoulder.
Your shoulders should extend a few inches past the waistline on both sides. You can also measure the widest part of the jeans from shoulder to shoulder.
3.Wrap waistline of jeans from navel to spine.
Jeans should ideally be covering this distance between the middle of your back and middle of your abdomen.
- Pay Attention to Details:
Long zippers are an indicator of high-waisted jeans. Also, look for brands that you are familiar with and/or worn before. You’ll also want to pay attention to the stitching and steams. If jeans are ripped or torn make sure its fashionable.
- Do Not be Afraid of Adjustments
If you find an almost perfect pair of jeans do not be afraid to make adjustments. As a curvy girl, I often have to make adjustments because I have a smaller waist and wider hips. Thrifted jeans leave a bit more money in the budget for tailoring if necessary.
