Houndstooth Plaid? I just learned something new. Until recently, I did not know that houndstooth is considered to be plaid. I have never worn houndstooth plaid in my entire life just because patterns often make me alittle anxious.
This “new” information came by way of Dina’s Days , a really cool thrift blogger and reseller. Dina has a 12 Months of Thrifting Challenge where she challenges you to thrift something new and exciting each month. Plaid is the theme for October’s thrift finds. (Click here for more information about 12 Months of Thrifting Challenge & Plaid Cheat Sheet).
Currently, I own 2 plaid shirts (one Check Plaid, one Window Pain Plaid) but I did not purchase them at a “thrift” store. Therefore, a trip to the thrift store was necessary. For about two weeks, I looked at the Plaid Cheat Sheet on Dina’s page before deciding to challenge myself to thrift houndstooth plaid. Not for one second did I think it was going to be as easy as it was. After 20 minutes top in Goodwill Pearland, I found this 100% wool vintage houndstooth plaid blazer. Its a size 14, so I knew that I’d be rocking an oversized look. After washing the blazer, I cut out the shoulder pads. Typically, I do not mind a shoulder pad but since the blazer was so big the shoulder pads had to go!
Did I mention, I have never EVER worn houndstooth in my life! So, I knew that I wanted to participate in this challenge for a few reasons. Obviously because it would force me to open my mind to new wardrobe items. Secondly, the challenge gives me a reason to THRIFT (lol).
I’ll be on the look out for a black and white houndstooth coat and/or skirt! Do you own any houndstooth wardrobe pieces?
